I am ecstatic to announce the release of my first coin that I’ve designed and illustrated for the Royal Canadian Mint.
This coin, released in 2oz of gold and silver, commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the completion of The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway that spanned Canada from East to West.
I depicted a 1914-era train crossing the Grand Trunk bridge in Saskatchewan. It required a lot of research and preliminary work to make the bridge and train accurate. The original drawing went through rounds of vetting by experts to make sure everything was accurate – not just technically but historically as well.
It’s a real dream come true to illustrate a coin for the Mint. Below is my original illustration. It’s incredible to see just how much detail they were able to include on the coins, only 54mm and 42mm in diameter.
You can see a few more images of the coin on my blog.
