With this week being the start of the new baseball season, I thought it would be appropriate to post this recent spring-themed illustration I made about an old urban pastime, Stickball. I have always been inspired by old photographs of early NYC kids claiming a whole block as their field and drawing a crowd with nothing but a broomstick and a ball. From what I remember my Grandfather telling me when I was younger, this was a huge source of entertainment and physical activity in the warmer months. I’ve always wanted to create an image based around that time in NYC history, while adding my own narrative to it. Hope you enjoy, and play ball!!
