I had the honor of illustrating a film review for “Gangster Squad” in the New Yorker this week. There was also a review for “Jack Reacher” in the article. Both of these films are ultra-violent, unfortunately. So it makes me happy that this piece doesn’t actually show any guns, only used ammo and shadows. Lots of sketches below- some more literal, with actors from the movie while others are more graphic, less specific to the actors. I kinda like the explosion pocket square…


The top right and exploding pocket square sketches would have made great finals but I’m still even more into the chosen concept. I like it when there’s a little something extra going on in a piece. Really nice colors and spacing on this one.
