Here’s a fun new illustration for a Los Angeles Times article about a current wave of buying American-made products for Christmas, to appear on the cover of the Sunday Business section.
This was one of those projects where you turn in your concept sketches and then hope and pray that the Art Director (and Editors) go along with your favorite idea. In fact, when I sent my sketches, I told the AD Derek Simmons that I liked the above concept so much that even if he didn’t pick it I would likely execute it anyway as a portfolio piece.
Luckily for me, this one made the cut and I was thrilled. It just seemed like an original take on the story that made perfect use of overlapping visuals. Thanks again to Derek for this fun assignment. See more of my work at thomasjamesillustration.com.
