Ryan Snook – American Way

Quarter page illustration for a story about a journey to find the most Thanksgiving-y town in America — Pilgrim, Mich. This was a blast to do, whenever Betsy at American Way has a job for me I know it’s going to be great. I played around stylistically with a loose ink wash for the background, something I plan to do more of in the future.

  1. That background technique worked perfectly. Amazing how well it goes with the foreground style as well.

    • Thanks Thomas! I’ve been really interested in bringing in more of a painted feel to my backgrounds, influenced by old cartoons. I kinda want everything to look like a cell.

  2. such mastery of subtle textures. there’s a lot of magic in this one!
