Quarter page illustration for a story about a journey to find the most Thanksgiving-y town in America — Pilgrim, Mich. This was a blast to do, whenever Betsy at American Way has a job for me I know it’s going to be great. I played around stylistically with a loose ink wash for the background, something I plan to do more of in the future.

That background technique worked perfectly. Amazing how well it goes with the foreground style as well.
Thanks Thomas! I’ve been really interested in bringing in more of a painted feel to my backgrounds, influenced by old cartoons. I kinda want everything to look like a cell.
such mastery of subtle textures. there’s a lot of magic in this one!
thanks Keith!!
