Christine and Joe over at Heroun + Co. were nice enough to ask me to work on the latest cover of The New Republic. They’re great communicators and always so appreciative of what I do so I was thrilled to get the call. Here they already had an idea in mind to have a vintage european travel poster type of image but show a euro specific train going off the tracks to represent the current situation over there.
Showing outdoor environments and action are not in my usual vocabulary so I was a little concerned initially, but I gave them a few variations and the editor went with my version of a bridge collapsing. I ended up tweaking this thing literally right up to the last minute. My hat is off to Joe for not blinking an eye when I sent him a revised file 5 minutes before it was to be sent off to the printer with the caption, “Wait! here’s one with snow!”
I’m really happy with how it turned out and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
